Ultrastar DC HC520 — drives that have a capacity of 12 TB, and belong to the fourth generation of hard drives, which use HelioSeal technology to fill the hermetic chamber with helium. It was this technology that made it possible to create hard drives of such a high capacity.

To achieve such a high capacity, the manufacturer placed eight 3.5-inch platters in its case at once, which no one had done before in this form factor. The new product uses perpendicular magnetic recording (PMR) technology, which, according to the manufacturer, makes them the best solution for ''active random access tasks''.

Spindle in the Ultrastar DC HC520 rotates at a speed of 7200 rpm, and the buffer size is 256 MB. Average access times of 8 and 8.6 milliseconds for reads and writes, respectively. The average data transfer rate is 255 MB/s .
