When using CISS, as well as when refilling cartridges, ink is required, which can be pigmented or water soluble. The advantage of pigment inks is that they are more resistant to light and water, do not blur when wet.
The advantage of using water-soluble inks is a significant cost savings compared to pigment and ease of use, with no risk of drying in the print head.
